1)To what extent were economic opportunities in the colonies available to the white majority largely because such opportunities were denied to the black minority?
2) Compare and contrast the culture of the southern colonies with that of the New England colonies?
1)To what extent were economic opportunities in the colonies available to the white majority largely because such opportunities were denied to the black minority?
ReplyDeleteThe whites in the colonies where giving more opportunities then the black race. The whites used the blacks as slaves. The whites could own a house. They could stay with their children. They could go the to town and buy things. Whites were a human beings. Whites were able to own their weapons and able to read and write.
Most slaves worked on cotton plantations. They were not paid they did for free. They were not people they were property. They could not live after dark. They were sold to other slave owners and their family were spit up. They were beaten if they didnt do things right. Some slaves were raped by their masters. Slaves didn't know how to read or write. They could not gathered in groups of three or more. And they made laws just to keep slaves under control. So there were more jobs for whites because of the opputunties denied by blacks. And also a easier life.
Your paragraph is a nice explanation on the reasons why opportunities were available more to the whites than the blacks.I agree that Africans were shut down and they did not recieve the proper education so the whites had the upper advatange.Whites had freedom and Africans had to do be treated like they were property and obey their masters.
DeleteIt's true that blacks were treated as convicts or property. White did have more power than anything back in those times.
DeleteGreat comment about how the slaves lived.
DeleteTo what extent were economic opportunities in the colonies available to the white majority largely because such opportunities were denied to the black minority?
ReplyDeleteWhites were giving more opportunities and freedom than the black colonies. For example, the whites owned their own houses, which the blacks lived in shacks. The blacks were more like the whites slaves. The black women were raped by their masters; some became pregrenant. The blacks were treated like furniture or property. When it came to education whites had more opportunties than the blacks. Blacks couldn't just go shopping or eat at certain resturants.
The black race were controled by the whites. The black colonies were beaten by their master if they didn't obey their master. Whites had decent rael jobs. Slaves jobs were to pick cotten on the field and take care of the needs of the family they lived with. Slaves were traded too. Some families would get seperated after the selling of the slaves. The blacks really didn't have opportunties.
I agree because African Americans were never really given a chance.African Americand had trouble finding employement and were punished for expressing how they feel.African Americans were treated and still are treated very poorly like animals.
Deleteeven though i hate this class i agree with what you are saying and Joy your comment is so correct
DeleteI agree that blacks didn't receive any economic opportunities cause they were controlled by the whites
Deletei totally agree with your essay because blacks did not have a say-so and if they said something out of terms, they were killed.
DeleteI agree with everything you say. Blacks would be killed on the spot for speaking their minds .
DeleteWhites were given way more opportunities in those times.

Compare and contrast the culture of the southern colonies with that of the New England colonies?
The Sothern colonies and the New England colonies were different in culture in many different ways. First, the southern colonies were differing from the New England colonies in culture, because the Southern Colonies had a culture which was based on farming which was mainly tobacco. The Southern Colonies had a strict three class system, upper class wealthy plantation owners, middle class which were based on small farming and poor whites and last Negroes which were not considered in a class at all. The religion of the colonist in the southern colonies was Catholic and Protestant. In a plantation, the wealthy planter’s children were educated at home by teachers that their parents hired. They learned reading, writing, dancing, and music. Boys learned to ride horses and hunt, spending lots of time outdoors. When the boys were old enough they learn how to run the plantation. Girls were taught to sew and sing, and when they got older, they were taught to run a household full of servants. Enslaved Africans were treated with cruelty. Their families were not together and husbands and wives were separated. Young children had to work hard just like their parents. Whether the climate was hot, cold, or rainy, the Africans were forced to work almost every day.
Next, the New England colonies culture was different from Southern culture, because there culture was based on affairs such as whaling and fishing, rather than more farming. New England had a rather democratic government where the elect were allowed to vote. They had freedoms like the freedom of speech and also the right to say as they like. There was a since of Americanism in there colony. Also they

2)Compare and contrast the culture of the Southern colonies with that of the New England colonies?
I believe the difference and similiarity between the New England and Southern colonies were the unique group of settlers who fleeted from their own country to establish a new type of living.
In the beginning, the Pilgrims were the very first individuals to colonize in New england. New England signified art and literature. Meanwhile, the Great Migration was on the verge of erupting and New England recieved nearly 20,000 immigrants as a result. The Pilgrims sought to gain religious freedom. New England had a few supplies to help cnstruct such as:oak, timber, pine, and mast. These items were transported from the Northeastern forest. Merchants and shippers would buy slaves on the Coast of Africa and then sell the slaves for either rum or gold in the West Indies. They would bring molasses home to sell to locol rum makers.
In contrast, southern colony residents from Jamestown had a small colony due to sickness and disease. However, Jamestow, Virginia was actually the first successful colony created in America. They depended on the English for import of tea and other goods. The Southern colonies also rose taxes to improve revenue. They had soil that was needed to grow cash crops such as corn, fruit, and grain. As far as education goes, parents did not support public education so rich planters and merchants sent private tutors from Ireland and/or Scottland so their children could be homeschooled. The children became very talented in reading books, singing melodies, dancing, and writing. Generally, the average household size was atleast 9. First, the men were expected to work extremely hard being minors, blacksmiths, carpenters,or farmers as well of be in charge of the household.Second, boys followed up after their father and help out in the fields.Third women were responsible for cooking, cleaning, and caring for their child. Finally, the girls would help their mom at home and care for their younger brothers and sisters plus any elderly family members. All of the children had to work whether it be at home or school. Forests brought alot of revenue (wood) including: lumuer, pinetar, and resin, which was used to build houses. On another topic, the southern colonies ate meats like turkey and fish. Men wore leather made from deer or sheep skin. while the women sowed their clothes at home. They celebrated several family traditions such as barbequing, a housewarming for newlyweds, dances, shootings, and contests for making quilt blankets. Some of these traditions still go on today.
In comparision, both Southern and New england colonies have a social class that is completely based on money and lifestyle.
I agree with you especially about the women role
Delete- To what extent were economic opportunities in the colonies available to the white majority largely because such opportunities were denied to the black minority?
ReplyDeleteslave labor provided whites with the ability to conduct large scale farming without having to pay much; they did not blend into the population as well as white workers, and so could not run away, and did not need to be let go.
The slave trade in general was profitable for whites.triangular trade, less competition for land and investments, plus overall preferential treatment towards whites allotted them more jobs, etc. They were given public deference and titles of courtesy because they were white. In his historical work Allen maintained: that the “white race” was invented as a ..... for example, although lauded as a "model minority" by the white majority in the area.disproportionately available to whites, is an advantage that often puts black
I believe that's right. How can you run away and no ones your color or even speak your text. Then you right about the fact that they thought whites was over and superior then black's
DeleteI agree with you on the point about slave labor. This provided a huge economic increase for the whites.

ReplyDeleteI believe it was just the fact that the latter had fewer numbers and tides to each other when the whites who had so much more going on, which is why they need help in the first place. Then its because of the color of the people and there education status, if you couldn't read or write how is it possible for you to run government and things. Then blacks where good in the fields and mines, not being smart in books but in hard labor it made whites see that it was no need to give them opportunities because they was making money off their work. Many opportunities was giving to them just because of education, color and background of their people.
ReplyDeleteCompare and contrast the culture of the Southern colonies with that of the New England colonies?
ReplyDeleteCulture and economic life in the New England colonies were well rounded while the southern colonies put much more emphasis on the economy. In the southern colonies, the social was defined based on who owned more land, slaves, or plantations.Colonies down south were "a hardworking, businesslike lot". Most part of southern life "revolved around the great plantations".
In New England women, men, and children had duties that contributed to the economy . That also helped them practice their culture. Education was required in towns where the population were at least 50. The New England colonies valued education and politics and religion.
1)To what extent were economic opportunities in the colonies available to the white majority largely because such opportunities were denied to the black minority?
ReplyDeleteThe white majority was considered superior over the black people.First of the blacks were brought over on a ship which is called the Middle passage. On this ship blacks were packed on top of each other no matter what size or gender .The blacks were first brought over as indentured servants but since they thought the blacks could not be seen as a person they used them to farm their crops such as tobacco. So yes the white population had way more right than any black person in the colonial period. The Americas which was once a land of freedom turned into a land of contradiction.
i agree with your essay the white people saw the black as animals and nothing more , so they used them for labor because they were known for that.
Delete1. To what extent were economic opportunities in the colonies available to the white majority largely because such opportunities were denied to the black minority?
ReplyDeleteMany economic opportunities where heavily available to the whites. This is due to the fact that blacks were owned as property. The white majority was considered superior over the black people. The black race were controlled by the whites. Business jobs and other education based facility often denied blacks to work. Slaves was prohibited by law from learning to read or write. Whites believed that a black persons job was in the field or the kitchen.Laws known as the slave codes regulated the slave system to promote absolute control by the master and complete submission by the slave. The slave was a chattel--a piece of property and a source of labor that could be bought and sold. Many whites used slavery as a regular growing business. This and the many plantations that thrived in the south caused an economic stimulus for the whites.

Compare and contrast the culture of the Southern colonies with that of the New England colonies?
Both the southern and New England colonies had two different economy and culture. In the southern part of the new world, the people who lived down there they had a vast landscape nothing but land. As time progress the southern people was relying on land-plantation, crops, and manual labor. Since they had a lot of land they turn it into a plantation to grow crops and materials. When it comes to other things like education, roles, and how they made money; education in the south was not like the New England colonies where in the north they actually learn something but in the south is was different, more or less, the white people- plantation owners- could learn things as math, reading, science etc., but for the slaves they could not learn because they was the worker. Roles for slaves, African American, were to work and obey command. For the others they were to work, build their cities and control others like a government. Now for money that would fall under the working slaves they had to make money off of crops, like corn, tobacco, rice, and potatoes.
New England colonies was different form the southern colonies in a whole different direction. New England colonies came to the new world for religious purposes; they wanted to clean the Church of England. The New England colonies were New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and these states are up in the colder part of the New World. They settled near water so they have to ship their food out to England. They build ships, caught fish, and were more protective, they did not get involved with those other colonies. Education in North colonies was important they taught their children how to read, write, do math, all of these would help them with business and household management. How the students learn was by private teachers and some of them were home-schooled.
In comparison they both was part of the new world and they both learn how to grow from the Indians.
what extent were economic opportunities in the colonies available to the white majority largely because such opportunities were denied to the black minority?
ReplyDeleteThe White race was considered to Bethe most powerful race ever. They were like God's, controlling the Blacks in every way. Blacks were brought over from the middle passage to serve as slaves. There it became worst for them. They were to obey every command from the white man or else. If they failed to do so then they would be killed.
The south began to rely on land to survive.such as farming for example. But slaves were prohibited from everything. For the whites economic wasntba problem. They had the blacks as slaves to do all of their economic work. So basically life eas easy for the whites .they had thr blacks to do evety problem they had solved out .
